Q& A for building massive responsive targeted twitter followings!
I asked and you guys delivered, In fact there were so many responses Im gonna to make this a two part series. Thanks to all who contributed such great questions.
I decided to break down the questions in order of importance, and also from beginner to advanced. Here we go.
davebull@seanmalarkey Sean, I’d like to know why everyone’s so obsessed with follower count – surely quality trumps size? (says man with small one)
Dave, Entrepreneurs of all types are seeing the value in twitter. When you have a product or service to sell – your audience is everything. Twitter is really the first social media tool that has the ability to appeal to all types. Myspace was good, but the audience and general look of most profiles was enough to alienate a lot of people. Facebook has a simple clean appeal, but certain limitations for business’s and the rate at which you can grow your audience make Facebook a less than ideal place for this. I could write 200 pages on this topic and how to address these issues – but were here to learn about twitter.
Dave, Im not suggesting you shouldn’t use either of the above medium, in fact you definitetly should. I’m more trying to answer your question and shed some light on why so many are seeing twitter as valuable.
Quality is extremely important, and must not be overlooked when building your following. If you want to market to folks in your local area, there are ways to do this. If you have goals of selling your audience a product or service its crucial, your list consists of folks who are interested in these things.
Twitter has given me the ability to grow a massive list in 30 days, and my list should be very targeted. My list consists of mostly individuals who are interested in the same things as me – Real estate & the internet. How did I target these followers – simple, I went to profiles of experts/gurus in these arenas and followed their followers. I felt this would be an excellent angle to get myself in front of like minded folks, and I suggest you do the same.
donnawhite@seanmalarkey Here’s a ? –What is advantage of having a big Twitter following? Disadvantage? BTW #FollowFriday – u r a pleasure to follow
Advantage? – well if you have something to sell or offer (no – this doesnt mean your evil) – its huge. The bigger the better right? Also from an information standpoint – its incredible. With my list, I can ask for anything and get a good response.
Disadvantage? – A time waster, Twitter can be very time consuming and you can get caught up in @replying or sending DM’s or just rading updates. I am guilty of this from time to time. Its hard not to be – twitter is somewhat addictive by nature.
Thank you for the #FollowFriday love – your a pleasure as well. If your not following @donnawhite – you should be, shes great.
MrMailman@seanmalarkey What are some key initial steps after setting up an account?
This is a great question – and I see a lot of “Professionals”, “Experts”& “Gurus” making some very basic and critical mistakes. I need to make a how to or instructional video about this – it would be very helpful for you guys.
First – When setting up your profile – make sure your first and last name is seperated ( you can change it via settings if you made this mistake) – I so bad want to name some names here but I wont. There are some Internet “gurus” who have made this mistake. Why is it so important? Because people cant find you, and when you want to build a list – its crucial people can find you. – If your name is “joeblow” and someone searches “joe blow” – they wont find you.
Second – have a strong bio relative to what or who you are – If you are selling real estate – make sure you mention your a Realtor and use the next few sentences to sell your self.
Third – If you link your website – get rid of the “www” (check link prior to inserting and make sure it works) this is valuable real estate – and the www eats up some of it.
