What, you want to interview me @SeanMalarkey?

Posted by seanmalarkey on June 19, 2009 at 5:41 pm.

Recently with the release of Twixplode I have been getting a lot of requests for interviews.

Two recent ones that standout to me are one I did with Sharifah Hardie & Ryan Yee.

Sharifah Hardie is Google’s #1 Ranked “Professional Business Consultant,” she hosts a very successful Blog Talk Radio Show “Ask Sharifah”. So when she contacted me through Facebook and wanted to interview me – I was floored! We ended up doing an awesome interview where I discuss – my background, how I found Twitter, how I make money with Twitter, and a lot of ninja tactics and principles from Twixplode -  Tons of good free advice for optimizing your Twitter Experience.

Check it out.

The second Interview I’ve done lately was with Ryan Yee. Ryan originally got the Twixplode mini course and literally exploded his following (see chart here). He sent me a bunch of great tweets thanking me and I really took an interest in Ryan. As an mentor here is nothing more rewarding than someone who takes your advice or knowledge and benefits from it. And then takes the time to thank you. Its been really rewarding & exciting to see Ryan apply the principles and see his business flourish as a result.

Ryan created http://tweepleontwitter.com/ A really cool interview format where Ryan uses Tweets to conduct an interview. It was definitely a different type of interview and I really enjoyed doing it.

TwitterVIEW – SeanMalarkey 06/16/09

Twitter Guru TwitterView with @SeanMalarkey Sean Malarkey is an expert list builder, blogger, and Internet junkie. Author of “Twixplode,” Sean offers real-world experience in building a massive following on Twitter. His book and mastermind coaching will put you on the road to Twitter success quickly. http://Twixplode.com NerdBoyTV: I’m very excited to have a chance to tweet with you directly; mainly because I REALLY have exploded my following by listening to you. NerdBoyTV: Sean, tell us about your background…how did you stumble onto the Twittersphere? SeanMalarkey: Ok I first discovered Twitter via @ijustine while watching Justin.tv 2-3yrs ago. She was in the chat asking for tweeps to follow her. NerdBoyTV: Did you have ANY idea what Twitter was at that point? SeanMalarkey: Not really. I’d heard of it — but when I looked a it, I just didn’t get it. NerdBoyTV: So when did you realize you had found an awesome social networking and marketing tool? SeanMalarkey: February 12th of this year…I was on Facebook chatting with @kmesiab — he broke it down for me. NerdBoyTV: And you literally went from 0 followers to over 70,000 in 90 days. What changed in your approach to Twitter? SeanMalarkey: Realizing the value in the list and how easy it was to build. It was unlike anything I’d seen and I sensed it would rise in popularity. 1 NerdBoyTV: Now list-building and Internet marketing is not new, but how did you find Twitter to be different? How did you build on that difference? SeanMalarkey: Well first of all, it had an open door policy — in other words here’s my list …which is valuable stuff. SeanMalarkey: Second, due to the simplicity of Twitter, it meant having targeted followers and writing good subject lines with links (easy stuff). SeanMalarkey: Lastly, I saw it as a way to get my foot in the door to Internet marketing. Maybe with a big list, I could get attention from the top dogs. SeanMalarkey: And that’s exactly what’s happened — I’m now chatting with and getting advice from managing profiles for some BIG names. NerdBoyTV: And I know you mention this in your book, but don’t you find the Tweeple on Twitter so kind, accessible, and ready to give? SeanMalarkey: It’s incredible how nice people are on Twitter — I’ve found so much help and built a great team from that help. SeanMalarkey: I can literally tweet asking for help and, within minutes, I will have multiple responses — sometimes over 100! SeanMalarkey: One of the best parts of having a big list is the reach — I can impact or spread goodness through a tweet — and receive as well. NerdBoyTV: What do you attribute that Twitter openness to? Why do you think tweeple are so quick to help and respond versus other platforms? SeanMalarkey: Not sure — the demographic here on Twitter is more mature (maybe that). I honestly wonder sometimes if it’s because its so… SeanMalarkey: …stripped down — I have no pictures, no video, not much room for a bio….leaving very little for you to pass judgment on me. SeanMalarkey: And it’s human nature to want to help others — it feels good. “Due to the simplicity of Twitter, it meant having targeted followers and writing good subject lines with links (easy stuff).” “One of the best parts of having a big list is the reach — I can impact or spread goodness through a tweet — and receive as well.” 2 NerdBoyTV: I sometimes wonder if it’s the texting/chatting aspect that gets people to open up and be friendly…met so many nice folks. NerdBoyTV: Tell us about your mini-email course…what few simple things can someone do to get started in twixploding their following? SeanMalarkey: Go opt-in at http://mytwitterexperiment.com/ for the mini series — it’s all there and it’s free! NerdBoyTV: Good deal. And as if you needed another plug, @NerdBoyTV followed ALL these tips. Went from 2000 to 8000+ (followers) in probably a month… SeanMalarkey: Thats awesome Ryan. How has it helped your biz? NerdBoyTV: Oh needless to say, @NerdBoyTV has GREATLY increased its viewership and reach. NerdBoyTV: …thank you so much, btw ;-) What do you find as some of the biggest mistakes folks make on Twitter (using Twitter, etc.)? SeanMalarkey: Biggest mistakes? Um – that’s hard cause Twitter is so personal, but if you’re here to promote or sell — I see people spamming. SeanMalarkey: There’s also a ton of little mistakes a lot of good people make that really would increase traffic or conversions if done correctly. NerdBoyTV: …example? SeanMalarkey: Removing “www.” from web address on profile. Sometimes removing those four characters makes a big difference. NerdBoyTV: Ah yes, I liked that one!!! Because of the Twitter profile restriction, this ONE little gem makes a LOT of sense! SeanMalarkey: That one little gem has driven over 8,000 hits to a website in the last 7 days from 4 hrs work…. SeanMalarkey: Are you seeing good traffic from twitter? 3 “There’s also a ton of little mistakes a lot of good people make that really would increase traffic or conversions if done correctly.” “Removing “www.” from web address on profile. Sometimes removing those four characters makes a big difference.” NerdBoyTV: Let’s see…my email newsletter has increased, my downloads on iTunes podcast are up, & launched TweepleOnTwitter…yeah, not bad. NerdBoyTV: How much time on average do you spend on Twitter? Is it really possible to build a following on maybe 15 mins/day? SeanMalarkey: I spend an hour or so on Twitter throughout the day — I really enjoy it — so I have to limit myself to an hour. SeanMalarkey: You could literally build a following with 15 minutes of work total… Read Chapter 19, Tactic #8 in Twixplode for more information. NerdBoyTV: Which reminds me, if your SERIOUS about building your following (legally), you BEST get Sean’s ebook, Twixplode at http://bit.ly/l4ghV. NerdBoyTV: Also earlier, Sean mentioned his mini-email course at http://bit.ly/18GXZe. Optin to get his 5 FREE lessons. Yes, I’m shamelessly promoting. NerdBoyTV: Believe it or not, we’ve been tweeting for over an hour ;-) As we wind down, can you tell us about your Twixplode coaching? SeanMalarkey: Sure. We are going to break down the course in detail and talk about things in greater detail…as well as answer questions. SeanMalarkey: Sharing new things that are working and hopefully line up some Twitter celebrities for the calls! NerdBoyTV: Will this be a weekly call-in? Really sounds like a no-miss, hand-holding leap into your book’s content, huh? Nice. SeanMalarkey: Twice a month — on the 1st and 15th. NerdBoyTV: Do you have a link for those who are interested in joining this coaching mastermind? SeanMalarkey: http://bit.ly/l4ghV Choose the option for coaching (it’s free for 30 days). NerdBoyTV: Excellent! No risk deal ;-) 4 “I spend an hour or so on Twitter throughout the day — I really enjoy it — so I have to limit myself to an hour.” “(In Twixplode coaching) we are going to break down the course in detail and talk about things in greater detail…as well as answer questions.” SeanMalarkey: Absolutely …..
