Normally I receive around 200 DM’s every day. The majority of them are auto dm’s, spam, unsolicited invites to join a mafia family, slap a trout on someone, or play a game, take a quiz. Exactly the kinds of productive activities I normally engage in with my free time – NOT. I don’t have time for games or quiz’s and I choose to use my free time doing different things. I don’t have anything against these games and I actually think they are great if they help people get more out of Twitter, but plain and simple – I wanted my Direct Message box back, as I began missing valuable DM’s.
I began to click the links and search for opt-out links or instructions and put together a short list of the biggest offenders. Get the whole story »
A few months ago, I made the leap from Facebook to Twitter, much to my husband’s dismay. He already had (somewhat legitimate) concerns regarding the amount of time I spent on Facebook catching up with lost friends from high school. Now I was adding the world of celebrities (in what my son referred to as legalized stalking) on Twitter? Yep, I sure was. Keith Urban is on Twitter, you know! So without knowing what a tweet was, I had an account of my very own.
Tonight as I was sitting around our fire pit in our backyard, I couldn’t help but
wonder what the score was of the Monday night football game was. We were exhausted
and ready to put the kids to sleep when my 5 yr old reminded us that we promised
her we would make a fire and make some smores! For those of you who are not familiar
with the term smores – its a delicious treat, that involves Graham crackers,
Chocolate and marshmallows roasted over a campfire.
I wanted so bad to put the kids down and watch some Monday night football but a
promise is a promise. We have been preaching to our daughter that she should always
hold her promises so we reluctantly agreed to make a fire and fulfill her craving for
some time with mommy & daddy and those cavity inducing treats we call smores.
As im sitting there watching the fire begin, I began to wonder what the score of
the Monday Night Football game was. So I tweeted asking for a resource to check
football scores on a mobile website. I waited a few minutes, then opened the mobile
browser on my phone to Twitter, and before I could access my @replies I couldn’t help
but notice the same 3 words over and over again on my home screen “RIP Patrick Swayze”.
In disbelief I tweeted “Damn I logged in and all i see is “RIP Patrick Swayze” – is it true?
So you’ve heard about twitter in the media, you might even have signed up but have you been able to use it as an effective marketing tool? You’re not alone, most people haven’t!
80% of people who sign up to twitter stop using it after a few weeks, why? Because most people just don’t “get it”. When I first signed up I didn’t really “get it” either- tweeting in 140 characters in answer to the question “What are you doing?” How is that an effective marketing tool?
Simple: it provides a medium for people to get to know you, your business, your products & services. Twitter success does not happen overnight, in this way it’s similar to all networking- you only get out what you put in. I describe it as a savings account- you cannot withdraw anything until you’ve been depositing long enough and regularly enough. If you attempt to get something out before you’ve put enough into it you will incur penalties. (People will unfollow you).
So how do you deposit into your twitter account? By tweeting consistently & regularly.

So many things are about to change for you, If you have not been growing by the hundreds or thousands on a daily basis – DO NOT skip this part. It is crucial and you will thank me later.
Get excited – within 24 hrs from now you should have at least 500 new followers. Some of you will experience as much as 3x that number. What you are about to learn is extremely powerful and one of the main reasons I was able to become the fastest growing non-celebrity on twitter.
Before you take any of the steps you are bout to learn, take note – your may have different results than I or others have experienced. There are many different variables that will dictate your outcome. Things like how many tweets you’ve made, how old your account is, How many people you are following, How many are following you, etc.
Before you implement any of the steps below – be sure to do everything that was mentioned in day 1.
If you just opened your account, It is a real good idea to tweet at least 15 times before taking the steps below.
One last thing, if you want to drive a lot of traffic to your site, blog, facebook account – go to http://tweetlater.com and register. Once registered Click on “add account” then add your twitter account and it will give you an option to automatically send a DM to all new followers. This can be incredibly powerful if you want to drive a lot of traffic your way. Upgrade to the pro version via the free trial and explore. This is one bad-ass software. Im gonna do a video on how to use it, trust me its awesome.
